Breast Fat Transfer (Lipofilling) — Tangier

Breast lipofilling involves harvesting fat through liposuction and reinjecting it into the breasts, to improve their volume, shape or symmetry. At the Tangier Breast Institute, Dr Faïçal Sefrioui offers this technique both as a complement to breast reconstruction and as a standalone aesthetic procedure.

Breast Fat Transfer (Lipofilling)

What Is Breast Lipofilling?

Lipofilling (or autologous fat grafting) uses the patient’s own fat, harvested through liposuction from a donor area (abdomen, hips, thighs), which is then purified and reinjected into the breasts. It adds extra volume in a natural way, without the need for a breast implant.

Who Is It For?

Breast lipofilling is suited to two groups of patients: those undergoing breast reconstruction after breast cancer, for whom it refines the result or adds to the volume achieved with an implant (see Breast Reconstruction), and those wanting a slight increase in size or a shape correction in a purely aesthetic context, without an implant.

How the Procedure Works

  1. Liposuction of the donor area.

  2. Preparation and purification of the harvested fat.

  3. Careful reinjection of the fat into the breast in small amounts, at different levels, to achieve an even, natural result.

What You Should Know

Lipofilling provides a moderate increase in volume, generally less than what's achieved with a breast implant. Some of the injected fat may be reabsorbed in the months following the procedure, which is why a second session is sometimes needed. It has the added benefit of also refining the donor area.

Recovery and Follow-Up

Recovery is generally straightforward, with mild swelling and bruising in the treated areas (breast and donor site), which gradually fade. Follow-up is provided to assess the stabilization of the result, usually achieved after a few months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some of it may be reabsorbed in the first few months; the final result is generally assessed after 3 to 6 months, and a touch-up may be offered if needed.

Yes, it can be performed in a purely aesthetic context, independent of any reconstruction.

Yes, a sufficient amount of fat in the donor area is required; this is assessed during the consultation.
